Stefan Gänzle is Professor of Political Science and the Head of the Department of Political Science and Management, University of Agder. From 2017 to 2020 he was the Jean Monnet Chair in European Governance. Since 2020 he is a member of the Jean  Monnet Centre of Excellence at UiA (

Stefan holds a Ph.D. from the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (2003). Previous affiliations include the German Development Institute (D.I.E.) in Bonn, the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver and the University of Jena.

His interests lie in the field of regionalism in world politics, regional cooperation, and EU foreign policy. He has provided consultancy work for the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and several German ministries.

Since 1999, he has taught political science, International Relations and EU studies to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students in several European countries (e.g. France, Germany and Ukraine) as well as Canada.
